Playing in La Muga River
Bienvenidos a España.. Our first stop in Spain is in a little town in Catalonia. The town is called Saint Llorenç de la Muga. The reason we are here is because the owner is one of Mama’s and Papa’s highschool friends from Miami. Our room looked over the 500 year old moat, the garden, pool and chicken coop. Luckily, there were no roosters in the coop.
The hotel was named after the tower, up the hill which was a lookout tower for the town back in the 1600s. The hotel was built in 1611 and still stands today. The hotel is small, has about seven rooms and it all made of stone. Our friend, the owner, worked on (built the pool, fixed up stone walls, painted and made bathrooms) the hotel for a bunch of years before anyone could sleep there.
The town was built next to a river, La Muga, so the people could make water-wheels and use the energy to make things. They also washed their clothes in the river. We swam in the river and I loved it. We found cool stuff on the bottom like glasses, goggles, masks and bracelets. The food tasted great and I particularly liked the salmon, fresh morning jam and warm chocolate croissants.
In the summer, kids stay up until 3am, running around, playing tag and other games. But, we were too late because we arrived in September and school had just started. Even though all the streets are stone, there are still a lot of them and they are fun to play hide and seek. This town is super old and looks like something from my dreams. I would love to visit Saint Llorenç de la Muga again.
(There was also an amazingly awesome puppy there named Oli after olive oil.)
