Cheese Town
Last weekend, my family and I had a special guest that stayed with us, my cousin Josie. (Josie is here because she is studying abroad in Florence.) Together we drove to a nearby town about an hour away called “Pienza.” The town we visited was known for its specific kind of cheese or “Formaggio” as the Italians call it, Pecorino. All of their cheese is amazing but their Pecorino is the best. It is made from 100% sheep milk. Pecorino means sheep in Italian. We tried three different ages of this awesome cheese. One was aged a month or two, then about eight months, then finally a year. The one that was aged a month was the softest and milkiest. The one that was aged the most tasted almost like sharp cheddar. Finally, the middle one was my favorite because it was not too soft or too hard. A fact about Pecorino cheese is that there are a lot of different kinds of Pecorino like the one from Tuscany is called Pecorino “Toscano” and the one from Sicily is called Pecorino di “Filiano.” This has been an amazing trip. If I could, I would love to go back and see the beautiful town of “Pienza.”
