Athens

Everybody knows the place Athens, Greece, but not many people know why it is called Athens. Thousands of years ago there was a city called Attica. Attica needed a God to look over their city so they picked up their phones (just kidding) and called the Gods. Two Gods answered their call and those gods were Poseidon and Athena. Athena came up with the idea that she and Poseidon could give the city a gift and witch ever they liked more would be the god of the city. Poseidon went first and stabbed his trident into the ground and created salt water which gave the people water to swim in, fish in, and they could travel by boat. When it was Athena’s turn she gave them a seed, and the people were confused. They were about to declare Poseidon the winner when the seed started to grow. It grew into a olive tree. This tree gave them shade, olives, wood (for boats and weapons), and oil (for lanterns, cooking/eating with, skin care, and for trading). Athena won and was crowned the goddess of the city now called Athens.

That story may or may not have been true but in the Acropolis there is proof of that challenge. According to the legend the challenge took place in the Erechtheion temple along side the Parthenon. After all of these years there is still a hole in the roof of the temple (Maybe) from Poseidon and an olive tree right next to it (Maybe) from Athena. I even saw it with my own eyes.
