Tulip Grows in Paris

Have you ever been to Paris? Well i hadn’t either before this amazing trip. A couple of my favorite activities we did were visiting the Musée d’Orsay, riding an elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower and passing time at all the cafés.

The Musée d’Orsay houses the biggest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artwork like Monet, Manet and Vincent Van Gogh. I spent an hour or so sketching a few of my favorite drawings, one by Monet called Water Lily Pond, Green Harmony (1899). I like Impressionism because what you draw dosen’t have to look exactly like what you are seeing in front of you. It is more free and open to all of your ideas. My favorite part about it is that you can draw the same picture, panting or landscape one hundred times, but it will never look the exact same if you are an Impressionist.

Just a short trip up the Seine River lies the Jewel of Paris, the Eiffel Tower. From the second flour, about 377 feet high, walk around 360 degrees and you can see almost the whole city including Notre Dame cathedral, the Louvre museum, and Europe’s largest modern art museum the Pompidou.

Another Paris specialty are the cafés. I love them because one, you can eat and eat and eat and i love that. Two, you can people watch, that is when you sit down at a café with a nice cup of peach tea and just watch the world go by. You can see the way people talk to each other and who they hang out with. I love people watching so much because I can watch the locals be local and watch all of the tourists with their maps. It makes the world slow down and i love it.

I never thought I would ever say this, but I actually didn’t hate escargot. Yes, it was chewy and slimy and came out of a shell, it wasn’t all that bad. In fact, it was good. If you didn’t know, escargot is snails and it’s a very popular in Paris. Now I know why!

Something else I loved were all of the crepes. The flavors I tasted were “butter, sugar and lemon,” “Nutella and banana” and “ham and cheese.” I enjoyed them all but my favorites were the dessert crepes.

My last, but certainly not least, favorite dish in Paris was French Onion Soup. It was so good, with local cheese. I’ve never had French Onion Soup in France. That’s pretty cool!
